Why We Built NigeriaSMS
In 2018, our founders were building a fintech application in Lagos and faced a recurring problem: SMS OTP messages were taking 30+ seconds to deliver, causing users to abandon the authentication flow. International SMS providers simply did not understand Nigerian network infrastructure.
The problem was clear — Nigerian businesses needed a messaging platform built specifically for Nigerian telecommunications infrastructure. International providers like Twilio and Sinch provided excellent global service, but lacked the direct Nigerian operator connections and local expertise to solve Nigeria-specific delivery challenges.
We built NigeriaSMS to fill this gap. Starting with direct API connections to MTN and Airtel Nigeria, we eliminated the aggregator middlemen that caused delivery delays. Our first customers were fintech companies who saw OTP delivery times drop from 30+ seconds to under 3 seconds.
Today, NigeriaSMS serves 5,000+ businesses across every industry in Nigeria — from the largest commercial banks to emerging startup unicorns. We handle over 10 million messages monthly and have delivered more than 1 billion messages since our founding.
